The Diamond Route aims to develop mutually beneficial relationships with recognized academic institutions to initiate, coordinate and conduct research which will generate information required for decision support and information directly in line with management objectives for the conservation and sustainable utilization of biodiversity, through the bringing together and coordination of information needed to achieve such goals.
This research should further contribute to conservation and sustainable utilization of biodiversity, through the bringing together and coordination of information required. This integrated approach will focus on making a contribution in solving managerial related problems to ensure the conservation and sustainable utilization of biodiversity.
It is envisaged that research outputs will assist in a better understanding of the various biomes which make up the Diamond Route and possible problems in the consumption and non-consumption utilization of biodiversity. We strive to make a meaningful contribution towards biodiversity conservation as well as improving the quality of life of rural communities surrounding the various properties.
The Diamond Route strives to facilitate effective Research, particularly where outside organizations are actively involved. All researchers are required to complete a Memorandum of Agreement and a standard Diamond Route indemnity form prior to registering any project.
A research database has been developed as an active register of research projects approved and/or underway will be recorded. This will ensure companywide efficiencies regarding transfer of information and impact (minimize duplication and loss of information). Research results should be published in peer reviewed Journal publications, conference papers and other publications promoting both De Beers and E Oppenheimer & Son as being supporters of biodiversity conservation and research in the field of natural sciences and wildlife management.
All research proposals should be sent to Duncan MacFadyen, Diamond Route Research Manager, Duncan.macfadyen@eoson.co.za |
