VenetiaSet in the Limpopo valley amidst rugged sandstone cliffs and ancient baobabs, the 36 000 hectare De Beers’ Venetia Limpopo Nature Reserve is a piece of old Africa. Just 80km from Musina in Limpopo Province, the reserve is adjacent to and forms part of Mapungubwe National Park – site of southern Africa’s first kingdom. A World Heritage Site, Mapungubwe is also part of the Limpopo-Shashe Transfrontier Conservation Area.
Venetia and surrounding areas are home to over 400 bird species. A
trained guide is available to help discover the regions specials, which
include the elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl, Three-banded courser, Pennant-winged
Nightjar, Meyer’s Parrot, Meves’s Starling, Senegal Coucal,
Thick-billed Cuckoo and Tropical Boubou. However, Venetia is also well
loved for its wildlife which includes lion, elephant, black and white
rhino and elusive wild dogs. Radio tracking (telemetry) trips are offered
for both wild dogs and lion, which substantially increases the chance
of seeing these sought after species.
