Tswalu Kalahari Reserve
Meaning ‘new beginning’, Tswalu lies at the foot of the
Korannaberg Mountains in the Northern Cape Province. It’s the
biggest privately owned reserve in South Africa at about 100 000 hectares
in size, and offers a unique opportunity to experience the sweeping
Kalahari and crimson African sunsets.
When the Oppenheimer family acquired Tswalu, their goal was "to
restore the Kalahari to itself" and to make Tswalu one of the premier
wildlife destinations in Africa. Today, conservation projects range
from butterflies to mole-rats and black rhino research. The rare sable
and roan antelope are also bred on Tswalu.
