Ezemvelo Nature Reserve

What We Offer

This is an excellent malaria-free option to see both a diversity and abundance of African game within two hours of Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The reserve offers guided day and night tours, in addition to the network of self-drive roads. There are several self-guided hiking trails, whilst you can hire bicycles or go for horse-rides. The reserve offers specialist guides, trained as bird and cultural guides for guided game drives and walks. The reserve has a rock art site with paintings from the San era.

As part of the Diamond Route, Ezemvelo offers birding walks accompanied by highly trained guides who will show you specials and hunt for your favourite species. A visit to the nearby local village is also possible, with prior arrangement and accompanied by a cultural guide, as is viewing the rock paintings on the reserve.

A small shop on Ezemvelo stocks basic supplies and firewood and day-visitor picnic and braai facilities are available. Mini-golf, volley ball and a swimming pool are there for visitors’ enjoyment. Or you could try your luck fishing in the reserve dam – but catch and release policy is strictly enforced.

There are also conference facilities available.

Accommodation and Rates (Subject to change)

Overnight facilities include self catering Legaes (Chalets), Hiking and Family Huts, an Eland and Impala Lapa and a Caravan and Camping Site.

Legae Huts

(max 4 people)
8 units (2 grounds, 2 lofts), bedding, electricity, hot shower and fully equipped cooking facility.
Rates: R600 per night weekend, R520 midweek.

Family Huts

(max 6 people)
2 units, 2 bedroom 3 beds each, Solar power only, outside cold water and provide own utensils.
Rates: R830 per night weekend, R750 midweek

Hikers Hut

(max 8 people)
3 units, solar power only, outside cold water and provide own utensils.
Rates: R1050 per night weekend and R950 midweek.

Camping / Caravan and Tent stands>

(max 6 people per stand) per night
60 units. Each stand accommodates six people, most stands are shaded. Electric power points. Separate ablution block. Braai stands.
Rates: R375 per night weekend and R250 mid-week.
